Our styling gels dry hard and hold hair where you put it. Once you have a bottle at home, basic care takes warm water and a sink. Here is how to keep the neck clean, rinse dried clumps from your hair, and check if an old bottle is still good.

Opening a hardened cap

Gel dries hard when it meets air. If product dries inside the spout, the flip top can stick fast. Do not pry the hinge with tools. Unscrew the cap and run it under hot tap water for thirty seconds. The dried plug dissolves and rinses down the drain. Shake the cap dry, screw it back onto the bottle, and flip the top open. If the neck of the bottle also has dried crust, wipe the threads with a wet cloth before putting the cap back on.

Rinsing dried clumps from hair

Putting too much gel in one spot can leave hard clumps when it sets. Do not drag a dry brush through stiff hair. That pulls on the roots. Turn on the shower and soak your head with warm water. The gel dissolves completely on contact with water. Run your fingers or a wide comb through the wet sections to break up the excess product. Once the hair is fully rinsed, let it dry or style it again with a smaller amount of gel.

Storing the bottle cleanly

Store your squeeze bottle upright on a flat shelf away from hot radiators. After every use, snap the flip cap shut until it clicks. If excess gel sits on the spout tip, wipe it with your thumb or a damp rag before closing the lid. This stops air from getting inside the bottle and keeps the opening clear of crust. If you use a jar, screw the lid tight after taking what you need so the top layer does not dry out.

Checking if old gel is usable

An open bottle stays usable for months if you keep the cap shut. You can tell a bottle is past its prime by the look and the smell. Fresh gel is thick and holds its shape in your palm. If an old bottle turns watery, changes colour, or smells sour, the gel will no longer set properly. Throw the old bottle out.
